Tamanna Bakery

Uri, eternally targeted by our neighbours, is otherwise a peaceful town near the Line of Control, in Northern Kashmir. Uri has a large population, but still is detached from mainstream JK & India because of the frequent war-like situation created due to the mis-adventures from our neighbours. Aseem has been working on developing skills and generating employment through Social Entrepreneurship for such regions, and we have tried to implement the same model for Uri region.

Since we had first few units established in Kashmir valley, there were quite a few calls coming in for setting up more such units near the caller's village or town. When we had the chance to expand, we decided to start from Uri. We received great support from the local brigade of the Indian army in setting up the unit. We are happy to note, that like the first one in Bandipore, this, too is an all-women bakery. It generates direct employment for 6 women and indirect employment for over 20 people, considering the entire supply chain.
